Almost everyone is working from home now due to the coronavirus pandemic. Most companies had to create immediate strategies to be able to go virtual. The Covid-19 continues to bring new challenges for businesses and individuals, but along with these challenges exist new opportunities for everyone to learn, adapt, and be ready to face reality from a different perspective.
Working from home can be great on so many levels, but of course, there will be some challenges. Below are some tips to help you work effectively from home during these unprecedented situations.
1. Designate a working space
When working from home you can easily get distracted. Choose an area in your house that you can use as your everyday workspace. Having a working space that you only use for work will help you stay focused and puts you in the “office” mood.
2. Set a schedule
Because you are working from home you can easily either take so many breaks or work overtime that you exhaust yourself. To avoid this, create a daily schedule that is specific and clear. Know your start and end times. Have this schedule visible and easily accessible. You can either write it down and stick it in your workspace or maybe use your digital calendar and set on reminders.
When writing you schedule think wisely about your todo list and prioritize your tasks. Stay on top of the game and create a detailed schedule for the entire week.
3. Meet weekly with your colleagues and over communicate!
Once every week meet with your team to discuss any updates and weekly goals expectations. Stay engaged with your colleagues and share your working from home tips. This will help everyone stay focused on tasks and motivated to work. Have compassion and empathy for all your team members.
Less communication means more inefficiencies. Keep the communication between you and your teammates going throughout the week.
4. Prepare your meals
Remember that you can be easily distracted when working from home. Choosing your meals wisely will help you stay more concentrated and energized. Plan out your meals ahead of time. This will avoid overeating during your working hours or going for unnecessary snacks.
5. Exercise
Taking care of your physical and mental health is as important as getting your work done. Set yourself up for success by making sure you are getting enough sleep, physical activity, and mental health attention.
Go for a walk, exercise, meditate, or choose any other activity that will help your physical and mental well-being.
Working from home during this time may not be what you wished for, but you can definitely make the most of it. Give yourself time to implement this new routine and have faith in your ability to work this out.
