How do you want to tell your story?
At the Leadership Lab, we love questions that get your brain flowing — and this is a great one!
You might not think about your life, or career, as a story — but you should! Why? When you think of your life as a story, you realize that you are in control. You are the author AND the main star. It’s not about what opportunities life gives you, it’s about what opportunities you create for yourself. It gives you back the power.
So take a minute to think about how you want to tell your story, or better yet, bring out your notebook and a pen. Try writing your story from different angles.
You can start at the end. Write down what you want your life story to look like 30, 40, 50 years from now. Then work backward and show the steps you achieved to get there.
Or you can start from the beginning and work towards your end goals. That’s the great thing about being the author of your own story — you get to write it however works best for you — and you get to have as many drafts as necessary! You can even make this an ongoing project. Try having monthly or yearly drafts as your goals and desires change.
Pro Tip: Save all of your previous drafts and keep them as a reminder of how much you have accomplished by the time you write your next draft, or as a reminder that your life story is never fully published until the very end — it is a constant work in progress. A beautiful ebb and flow of challenges and accomplishments.
Here at the Leadership Lab, we want to help you create a page-turning life story with lots of success and triumphs. Let us help you!
